A écouter un chien aboyer

Dans la campagne obscure

Où sont les pierres sous les étoiles,

L’araignée méditative,

Les raisins qui rêvent

Du vin à venir

Il est loin le temps où j’étais berger,

Où j’étudiais la ponctuelle

Hémorragie de la mer et du ciel,

Les galaxies de la poussière ;

Le temps où j’étais esclave,

Attendait patiemment la nuit

Et le tintement

Du clair de lune sur la pierre blanche.

1 Málaga

Walking alone at dead of night

In a silent house, I lay

listening to a dog bark

in the dark country ;

with the star-lit stones,

the reflective spider,

the grapes dreaming

of the wine one day.

2 Parmos

It is long since I was a herdsman

studying the punctual

haemorrhage of sea and sky,

the galaxies of dust ;

since I was a bondsman,

patient for nightfall

and the ringing tone

of moonlight on white stone.
